San Diego Local Campaign Leadership Training
April 4th, 2014 6pm-8pm and April 5th all day, San Diego
CalBike is leading a Local Campaign Leadership Training sponsored by the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition. The training, from 6-8 pm Friday April 4 and all day Saturday April 5, will help advocates develop the skills to win issue campaigns like approval of San Diego’s Uptown Regional Bike Corridors project. Using a curriculum modified from the Alliance for Biking & Walking’s Winning Campaigns Training, we teach how to set goals, get media attention, identify targets and win arguments with policy makers and the public as necessary to get a ‘yes’ vote on your most important campaigns.
The class is just $150, or only $75 if you’re a member of the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition. Call Andy Hanshaw or Dave Snyder for more information.
Open Streets Summit
April 4th-6th, Los Angeles
Join The Alliance for Walking and Biking and CicLAvia in celebrating Open Streets which have gone from a novel idea to a permanent fixture in cities looking to improve biking, walking and public space.Leaders in cities across the country are now pushing for more frequent and longer Open Streets.

The Summit will be co-hosted with CicLAvia, Los Angeles’ Open Streets initiative and one of the premier programs in North America. The Summit will feature sessions for both novice and experienced Open Streets organizers, led by experts from the Open Streets Project, CicLAvia and other local organizers. The weekend will also have plenty of time for participants to network with one another and participate in and observe CicLAvia on Sunday afternoon.
The Summit will be head at The Line Hotel, located at 3515 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90010 and on the route for Sunday’s CicLAvia. Discounted room rates are being finalized at The Line, which will be announced shortly.
Cities for Cycling Road Show: Oakland

Oakland starts learning from other innovative American cities. The North American Cities of Transportation Officials (NACTO) holds its 9th Cities for Cycling Road Show in Oakland, and brings to town 3 national experts in innovative bikeway projects—Ryan Russo, Assistant Commissioner of Traffic Management, New York City Department of Transportation, Mike Amsden, Chicago Bicycle Project Manager, Chicago DOT, and Nicole Freedman, Boston Bikes Director, Mayor’s Office. You can hear their encouraging bikeway stories at the Road Show on April 10, and if you participate in our Winnings Campaigns Training March 21-23, you can spend one-on-one time with them to discuss your city’s innovative bikeway campaigns. Transportation Choices Summit & Advocacy Day 2014

We’ll press to direct funding from California’s can-and-trade program to bicycle infrastructure as well as other legislative priorities. Better Bikeways House Parties

Throughout California in 2014 we will be throwing multiple house parties to raise funding for our Better Bikeways campaign. We have already thrown two very successful (and FUN!) parties in San Francisco and Marin where we raised over $15,000 to improve biking in the Golden State.
